You might have read my last post about the Home Assistant I have running on my server and the setup I created. Honestly I have nothing to complain about and it works flawlessly.

BUT I had one simple thing that changed my mind about lights with smart integration - the usability.

It’s great if you have a (Shelly) button/switch to control the lights and not need an app or a website for a simple action such as turning on you lights. I also configured it to change brightness with increments and stuff like that depending on what button I pressed and how often. The main problem was the ability to move the button around and therefore it felt like it was always on the opposite side of the room. Turning the lights off while in bed was nice though.

The icing on the cake came in two courses. Firstly a power outage that broke the automation and activated the lights at full brightness in the middle of the night and secondly the bulbs breaking and only shining in blue and not connecting to the network anymore.

My solution was to get rid of the lights and have normal bulbs once again. It was nice with the smart bulbs but I honestly prefer the dumb bulbs for the time being. I still keep the Home Assistant running to control my thermostat though. That works without problems so far.
